The quinoa tourist route in three producing regions is launched

Farmers in the departments of La Paz, Oruro and Potosí will benefit from the agreement between Boltur and the International Quinoa Center.

In an unprecedented interinstitutional agreement, Bolivian Tourism (Boltur) and the International Quinoa Center (CIQ) signed this morning, an agreement to carry out the “quinoa touristic route” in three grain producing departments.

The project consists of three tourist offers in La Paz, Oruro and Potosí for 1 to 3 days, depending on the interest of the tourist.

The mayor of the municipality Salinas de Garci Mendoza, Ciro Mamani, highlighted this project “which will articulate agriculture and tourism”.

The route is programmed by the municipalities of Santiago de Andamarca, Pampa Aullagas, Salinas de Garci Mendoza, Uyuni, Ayo Ayo, Patacamaya, Humala, Puerto Perez and Pucarani.

This tourism circuit has the objective of designing, organizing and offering quality community-based tourism services tailored to national and foreign clients through effectiveness and quality, according to Lourdes Omoya, manager of Boltur.

According to the head of CIQ, Edgar Soliz, quinoa is a vegetable food that has all the essential amino acids and its calorific value exceeds the egg and milk, is comparable only to the meat. Its protein content exceeds grains such as wheat, rice, corn and oats. It is rich in minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium.

The agreement was signed in the headquarters of the Government Chancellery and had the support and participation of the National Association of Quinoa Producers (Anapqui).
