Bolivian carnival pranks?? NO! just ongoing governmental policy making…

This cartoon is from El Diario, February 17, 2012.

There is current Bolivian president’s scavenging in the oil barrel (our gas exports) labelled “Treasury, monetary reserves” as he says “a billion, a billion!..” is clear reference to this government’s intention to use that amount of our reserves on state-owned enterprises and support to specific production activities. The barrel is on top of the national treasury of the nation (TGN). Close to this barrel, there is a wide array of ‘expended priorities’ which reflect a biased savvy conundrum of current government: summits (of the environment, social movements); Chinese satellite; luxury plane; trips; radio stations; houses (last eccentricity: build up a new presidential palace); squander; and others, others.

Bolivia has the largest reserves in our Republican and current history; however most of it is due to extremely high international prices, from our natural resources’ exports. No new sustainable jobs were created and state-owned companies may reproduce the failures of the USSR and/or Cuba. In sum, Bolivia is losing the opportunity to be competitive and generate more wealth for all of us. A shame, a waste… a bad and sad joke in carnival times…
