Bolivian partners: Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Syria…

Cayo Salinas writes for Los Tiempos, an interesting article where he analyses the relationship between ALBA and Syria, let’s not forget Iran as well… a group of them is visiting Bolivia this week…

Syria and the Alba by Cayo Salinas (Los Tiempos, 11/20/11)

Two are the scenarios. The brutal repression that has been pursuing in a systematic way against Syrian citizens struggling for their civil and political rights, proscribed by the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. The second, the trip to Damascus by a delegation of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America (ALBA), consisting of Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Cuban Foreign Minister , Bolivian Communications Minister Ivan Canelas and by an Ecuadorian diplomatic official.
In the first scenario, the Syrians seek the establishment of a system of Government where human rights are respected and where the exercise of civil and political rights is guaranteed. And it is common in regimes that seek to anchor in perpetuity, to suppress any signs of dissent. It happened in Egypt and Libya, and “perpetual rulers” ceased to be so. In the Syrian case, the killing of civilians in the hands of the army has given rise to the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, alarmed by the growing number of deaths; the Arab League to suspend Syria and that the European Union has imposed sanctions to more people linked to the Government of that country.
In the second scenario, Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia have made known to the international community – this journey so credits it – the position they take before the Government of Bashar Al-Assad. In other words, while Arabs and the European Union repudiate and apply sanctions to prevent further genocide in Syria, the members of the ALBA take privilege of their ideological poses to the point of supporting this genocide.
“We have no doubt that the Empire and the Western powers want to ride on the internal problems of Syria to mount a conspiracy to hurt and destroy Syria. It remains in the hands of the Syrian people, with their capacity and their patriotism, to not allow that to happen”, said Venezuelan Minister on behalf of the illustrious visitors. Several thoughts on the matter.
In Syria people are killed in the streets for the mere reason to request changes and political transformations that enable better living conditions, as well as to prevent the access of the international press in order to avoid reproducing the brutality of the regime. On the other hand, the discourse of Governments grouped under the ALBA continues with an old discourse where the big culprit is the US empire and where the blood of the people is not sufficient to combat it. Such nonsense, which relegates, the most important law to mankind which is the life, and discredits internationally the Governments of Cuba, Ecuador, Venezuela and Bolivia. In our country, the Government made a serious mistake to go along with the staggering absurdity of supporting the Syrian regime without realizing the consequences of diplomatic order that this determination can bring about for us in the future. They have reasons for not having done so. Instead, a little personality and chivalry could be good in these situations, to say to Cubans and Venezuelans, who are those who carry the baton, that there are more than ideological similarities that unite the Governments of the ALBA, – not on the States – Bolivia does not support dictatorship or killings, let alone genocidal acts. Three thousand dead only for staying in power is not little, less it is the Bolivian presence in Damascus.
