The representative for Creemos, María René Álvarez, announced that she had sent eight notes to different United Nations rapporteurs to advocate for the rights of indigenous peoples and to denounce the forest fires that this year totaled 3.3 million hectares burned in national territory.

During an interview with the international network CNN, Álvarez addressed the problem of environmental damage that is being caused in countries in the region, with the approval of the governments in power in Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Bolivia.

The legislator representing Chiquitanía explained the panorama of burning in Bolivia, with the data of the 3.3 million hectares consumed in the departments of La Paz, Beni, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. Likewise, she stressed that the package of so-called “incendiary” laws is responsible for a disaster that is repeated every year in the country.

In that sense, she recalled that she has already presented a bill for the repeal of Law 741 and hopes that its treatment will be a priority for this week, once the Amazon Region Commission is formed, where the proposal of the fourth secretary of the Chamber of Deputies was sent.

When asked by journalist Fernando del Rincón about the options available to denounce these norms that are still undermined at the central level, Álvarez informed the international community that, from her legislative work, she sent eight letters to the Office of the Rapporteur on Human Rights. and Environment, to the Rapporteurship on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, both dependent on the United Nations, as well as the Rapporteurship on Economic, Social, Cultural and Environmental Rights of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, in addition to a recent one to the executive secretary of that international body.
