The issue between Tarija and Chuquisaca, over where the natural gas fields of Margarita belong to, has now more information, as Pagina Siete reports today:
“Margarita and Huacaya have a shared reservoir, Huamampampa 1B, according to the data achieved so far by Repsol, the operator of the block Caipipendi”, said yesterday the Minister of Hydrocarbons, José Luis Gutiérrez, in the oral report presented at the request of the Plural economy, production and industry Commission, Lower Chamber of the National Assembly [former Congress].
However, Tarija and Chuquisaca civic committees expressed different positions with respect to this claim.
Members of Tarija civic committee rated the Gutiérrez explanation as biased in favour of Chuquisaca, because they argue that until there is absence of a study to determine that the reservation is shared, the executive body cannot claim it.
In the meantime, Chuquisaca civics claimed that the hiring of a reputed international company should be speed up to fix the distribution of the reserve between the departments in conflict.
