Roberto Mendez gives us more details on how wide is the corruption on current central Bolivian government spheres…, from El Dia:
Every day that passes the complaints are multiplied
Network: the Web expands
Extortion. Bakovic, former roads service [manager] said he was one of the first victims and Congressman Oliva made it known that Villegas wanted to abduct him.
Nearly three weeks have been uncovered the Ostreicher case, which allowed the dismantling of an alleged network of corruption and extortion mounted on three ministries, there are starting to appear more complaints.
In Tarija, the former President of the defunct national service roads system, today Bolivian Road Administrator (ABC), José María Bakovic, revealed that he was one of the first victims.
Interviewed by El Pais, newspaper of Tarija in the corridors of the departmental Court of Justice in a lawsuit for breach of contract by the company responsible for their delivery and completion of a route between Tarija and Potosi, he said that “he was asked millionaire sums of money” and as he didn’t deliver as requested, now faces and supports seven processes initiated by “people that were discovered and who acted on behalf of the Executive Body embedded in the Ministry of the Presidency and Government”.
Kidnapping. Similarly appeared the opposition Deputy Adrián Oliva, to remind that in January 2011, Boris Villegas tried to kidnap him as he was leaving an audience of the leader from Tarija, Felipe Moza. And when he made the allegation, Héctor Arce, in his capacity as President of the Lower House, defended publicly to the then Director of the Interior Regime, Boris Villegas, and he said, Villegas was “a prominent and respectable professional”.
Chaparina Case. Similarly the main accused of the indigenous repression in Chaparina [TIPNIS, CIDOB, CONAMAQ IX protest-walk], the former Deputy Commander of the Police, Oscar Muñoz, said that having been arrested Boris Villegas “will allow prosecutors to proceed” to clarify the facts.
Political struggles. The case reopened wounds in the relationship between the President of the Chamber of Deputies, from the MAS, Rebeca Delgado and the Minister of Government, from the MAS, Carlos Romero. Delgado said that only intermediaries have fallen and gave a deadline until end of the month to get the investigation [reach] to the top.
Meanwhile, Deputy Yanine Áñez, demands public prosecutor to act promptly. “If the Lower House has given a deadline by the end of the month, we will see that the results be by the end of the month, I hope that they do so because the Bolivian people are waiting for that.”
Next convened. It is so for today [12/14/12] the statement of General Prosecutor Mario Uribe and on Monday [12/17/12] of the Ministers Carlos Romero and Juan Ramón Quintana, who have expressed their innocence with the lawyers.
The Ostreicher case grows as an avalanche
1 Government. So far are three lawyers from the ministries of Government, Presidency and Transparency, Boris Villegas, Fernando Rivera, José Manuel Antezana and the administrator of the Ministry of Government, Ramiro Ordóñez and also Dircabi officials, Moisés Aguilera and Miguel Gutiérrez.
2 Prosecutors. The former district attorney, Isabelino Gómez and Janeth Velarde are imprisoned and so is also the Assistant Prosecutor Gustavo Céspedes. Former prosecutor Mario Uribe will be called to testify.
3. In the crosshairs. They have to declare the Ministers Carlos Romero, Nardi Suxo, Juan Ramón Quintana.
I would find extremely hard to believe that this political party would ever win another election, at least for the next ten years. However, I am also aware, that unfortunately, the largest percent of Bolivian population do still believe current president and his party are doing a good job.
Whereas it is because of lack of knowledge, distorted/manipulated information, lack of common sense and a lack of reflection based on a good moral, ethics and education formation, that majority is highly prone to be molded and manipulated.
While a smaller portion of us who believe in freedom of speech/action and believe we are no less nor more than anyone else in this planet, we have to endure and be patient, as the avalanche of corruption and incompetence must leave us at some point in time.
