Demetrio Pérez, leader of the small-scale agricultural producers in Santa Cruz, strongly criticized the Government for lacking a clear agricultural policy.

He pointed out that improvised measures are being adopted that harm both the environment and producers, such as promoting crops in unsuitable areas like the Amazon.

Last week, the Government announced a loan of Bs300 million to promote soybean cultivation in northern La Paz and the Amazon, areas deemed unsuitable for intensive agriculture according to the Land Use Plan (PLUS).

“They are changing land use for political purposes and without planning. There are no incentives for wheat, which is in deficit, and there is no guarantee of access to credit or supplies,” he warned. He also raised concerns about the diesel shortage, which puts the winter harvest at risk. “These are promises without results; the ones who suffer most are the rural families,” he concluded.
