Most Bolivians believe that this year, price increases will outpace their incomes and unemployment will rise in the country, according to a recent survey by Ipsos CiesMori on the population’s perceptions for 2025.

The perceptions of the economic situation for 2025 are predominantly pessimistic, as people see a high likelihood of price increases outpacing income growth (86%), rising unemployment (85%), and inflation (84%). These perceptions reflect widespread concern about economic stability and financial well-being, the study reveals.

In a survey conducted with 400 people, the question was asked: “For each of the following, please tell me how likely or unlikely you believe it is that they will occur?”

  1. Prices in Bolivia will increase faster than people’s incomes. 86% responded that this is likely, and only 10% believe it is unlikely. In 2023, only 79% thought this was possible.
  2. Unemployment in Bolivia will be higher in 2025 than in 2024. 85% see this as likely, and 9% as unlikely. In 2023, only 78% considered this likely.
  3. Inflation in Bolivia will be higher in 2025 than in 2024. 84% believe this is likely, and only 8% unlikely. Compared to 2023, more people hold this perception, as that year only 75% thought the Consumer Price Index (CPI) could be higher.
  4. Taxes in Bolivia will be higher in 2025 than in 2024. 80% see this as likely, and 11% as unlikely.
  5. Interest rates in Bolivia will be higher in 2025 than in 2024. 79% responded that this is likely, and 13% unlikely. In 2023, 70% saw this as likely.

Inflation in 2024

In December 2024, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a positive variation of 1.06% compared to November. The annual accumulated variation was 9.97%, according to the report from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

However, the inflation registered for the “food” category reached 15.4%, surpassing the general Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the year 2024.

The Government, in the General State Budget (PGE), projects an inflation rate of 7.5% for this year.

Optimism

According to the Ipsos CiesMori survey, despite everything, there is optimism for the new year. Globally, seven out of ten (71%) say they are optimistic that 2025 will be better than this year.

Colombia stands out as the country with the highest percentage of optimistic citizens (88%), closely followed by Peru and Mexico.

Bolivia shows an optimism level of 65%, placing it below the global average and most Latin American countries. There is a 5% decrease in optimism compared to the previous year, suggesting greater caution or pessimism about the future.
