Instability Hampers Economic Activity | Inestabilidad rezaga actividad económica

By El Diario:

  • The current situation in the country, marked by a shortage of dollars and fuels along with the onset of social protests, creates a complex and changing environment for national industries.
The heavy transport sector announced that it will resume blockades on June 3 and 4.

The country’s economic activity is being hindered by the climate of instability and social conflicts, directly affecting the national industry which has to contend with blockades and land seizures in the absence of proper regulatory enforcement. Bolivia has once again entered a wave of protests over various demands, including the shortage of dollars and fuels, as well as regulatory issues.

Entrepreneur Branko Marinkovic lamented on his X (Twitter) account the situation faced by heavy transport and agriculture due to the lack of fuels. He blamed the government and suggested that the private sector be allowed to handle imports to avoid queues, shortages, and corruption.

Similarly, industries and exporters have strongly rejected the announced blockades by the “evista” faction, as well as by drivers and trade unions, as these actions only harm the national and business economy.

Javier Basta, Legal and Institutional Manager of Pil Andina, stated that the main factor working against any company or economic process is definitely instability. Road blockades and strikes are elements that can hinder the growth of the industry, a company, and economic development.

On the other hand, Alejandra Camargo, a deputy from Comunidad Ciudadana (CC), argued that the implementation of pressure measures such as marches and blockades harms the activities of the population and the productive sector in the country. She added that these actions only benefit the interests of politicians while the people suffer millions in losses.
