Criticizing the statements of the president of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), Armin Dorgathen, and his attempt to blame regulations for the fuel shortage in the country, Walthy Egüez, a deputy from the Creemos party, argued that the issue lies in the international community’s distrust of the Movement for Socialism (MAS) government. Therefore, a solution to this problem involves the departure of the blue party from power.

“They want to blame a law for the fuel shortages in the country; they are wrong. What is happening is that the international community, which invests in the hydrocarbon sector, has lost all credibility in the MAS government,” said the national assembly member.

Based on this, the Santa Cruz legislator believes that a simple solution to restore confidence in the country among international hydrocarbon investors is for the MAS party to leave power.

“The solution to this problem is for the Movement for Socialism to no longer be in government,” Egüez stated.

Over the weekend, YPFB President Armin Dorgathen claimed that the 2015 Incentives Law is the main reason for the increased importation of hydrocarbons. Before the enactment of this law, companies received payments in Nocres (credit notes) that exempted them from certain taxes. However, with the regulation enacted during Evo Morales’ government, the incentives were switched to cash payments.

Dorgathen noted that since 2017, there has been a “drastic decline” in oil production, which led to a gradual increase in imports. The current administration is trying to reverse this trend with its policy of industrialization and import substitution.
