SEDES Director Joaquin Monasterio, explained that patients are two adult female persons living in the same area where the first two cases were reported. But newly infected have no family relationship with the former, he stressed.

Monasterio explained that the four positive cases of this illness are in good condition and receiving medical treatment in their homes. He announced that fumigations are intensifying, destroying mosquito breeding nests and medical control.

In La Paz, the Departmental Health Service (SEDES) reported no cases of chikungunya were presented and that dengue is on the threshold of safety. Both diseases are spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti,

In the last epidemiological period, 43 cases of dengue, the lowest figure in the last five years were recorded. “Dengue in the department is controlled. In any epidemiological period at least 43 cases, in 2014 we had 89,” said the head of SEDES Epidemiology Unit, René Barrientos.

Regarding the chikungunya, SEDES Director, Henry Flores, said that to date there is no imported or indigenous case in La Paz. “Anyway, appropriate supervision at all health centers was done,” he said.

This is direct responsibility of every household inside Bolivia, to eliminate breeding areas for the mosquito, and that can be done!
