Las Lomas invests U.S. $ 10 million in steel factory
The business group Las Lomas Ltd. yesterday [2/8/14] put into operation the first steel rolling industry , which aims to produce construction materials to meet domestic demand.
Stainless Steel SRL is the company installed in Oruro with an investment of $10 million dollars and will generate 60 direct jobs.
The chairman of the group Las Lomas, Juan Carlos Zurita, explained that the factory in the first instance will produce 20,000 tons, it is designed to meet the demand of construction, hardware, national, departmental and municipal governments, who are continually building works in the country.
To jump-start, the SRL Stainless Steel Group purchased the Las Lomas industrial laminating unit, former Laminor, installed between 1991 and 1992.
The land of the company covers an area of 34,400 square meters , of which 10,000 are roofed.
An important aspect of SRL Stainless Steel is its strategic location because of its proximity to the Chilean and Peruvian ports allows it to have a door directly to the incoming raw materials, without excluding customs and tax benefits for the implementation of national industries in Oruro.
At the time of the inauguration, the Chairman of Las Lomas group, Juan Carlos Zurita, noted that the laminating plant will take a significant leap in the process of steel, creating skilled labor for future steel projects in the country .
Accompanied the opening ceremony the President of the Federation of Private Enterprises of Santa Cruz , Gabriel Dabdoub, the Head of the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, Services and Tourism of Santa Cruz (Cainco), Luis Barbery, plus the Chairs of Private Entrepreneurs of Cochabamba, Jaime Ponce, and Oruro, Fernando Nieme .
Business leaders agreed to highlight the entrepreneurial group Las Lomas , which has a tradition of 45 years in the field.
For the Confederation of Bolivian Private Entrepreneurs (CEPB), these investments show that the sector is confident with the country although there are some legal and technical barriers.
Again the investment law and arbitration were requested to the Government.
It is considered that these standards are essential for certainty and a clearer picture on the legal, technical and financial scenario in the country.
Entrepreneurship: The steel mill is located 5 kilometers from the city of Oruro , on the road leading to Vinto [EMV].
Foreign labor: For the maintenance and repair of some of the existing equipment, Oruro companies and experts from Brazil participated.
Foreign inputs: Billets are imported by the SRL Stainless Steel from the U.S., Europe and China.
10 Million dollars: It is the investment that is needed for the construction of this plant dedicated to the production of steel sheets.
2,000 in tonnes: The amount of construction material that the plant will produce annually, which is for the local market.
