The president of the La Paz Departmental Chamber of Hotels, Helga Cisneros, questioned on Tuesday the government of Luis Arce for imposing “out-of-place requirements” on tourists who want to visit the country, such as “economic solvency.”

“They’re also asking for proof of economic solvency and other information that tourists don’t have at the moment (of entering the country), and that prevents them from coming to Bolivia. They have to prove they have spending capacity and that they’re not coming to the country to stay longer. They must prove their card has a certain amount of money,” denounced Cisneros in an interview with ANF.

Supreme Decree 4574, which regulates the Migration Law, establishes, among other aspects, that a foreign visitor must declare every hotel, lodging, or property where they will stay; also write down the owner’s name and send a photo so Migration can gather the data. The regulation was later modified.

Tourism and the new government

In this context, the Executive Tourism Board (MET) has placed its trust in the new government that will win the upcoming general elections on August 17. They reported that seven out of nine candidates agreed to include MET’s proposals in their government programs.

Among the main proposals submitted by MET to the political parties are:

1.         International promotion of Bolivia as a destination.

2.         Improvement of connectivity and facilitation of access to the country.

3.         Strengthening of the sector’s human capital.

4.         Monitoring, evaluation, and innovation based on statistical data.

5.         Promotion of collaboration between public, private, and academic sectors.

6.         Creation of a high-level institution with public, private, community, and academic participation.
