The price of the dollar in the parallel market climbed to Bs 10.35 for sale and Bs 10.20 for purchase, Brújula Digital confirmed during a tour of a dozen exchange houses in central La Paz.

Of the 10 exchange houses visited, three did not have dollars, and one indicated that dollar purchases were not available, only sales.

According to the Central Bank of Bolivia, the official exchange rate is 6.96 for sale and 6.86 bolivianos for purchase. This means that the parallel market sale rate has increased by 48.71%.

At the beginning of July, the price of the currency was at a maximum of 10.10 bolivianos for sale and up to 8.65 bolivianos for purchase.

The currency’s rate has experienced a gradual but notable increase since last year. In December, the exchange rate was 7.70 bolivianos per unit; in February this year, it rose to 8.50 bolivianos; and by May, it reached 8.70 bolivianos.

This is due to the scarcity of dollars the country is experiencing, resulting in the increased prices of various services and products.

Despite an agreement signed in February between the private sector and the government, which included 10 measures to control the rising dollar price and bring foreign currency into the country, the situation has not been controlled and, according to some trade union leaders, worsened after the military uprising on June 26.
