The shortage of dollars slows down the recovery of tourism in Bolivia

The president of the Bolivian Chamber of Tourism, Luis Ampuero, considered that the effect of the lack of dollars in the country is “varied” and slows down the recovery that the sector was showing after the devastating years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hotels, restaurants, and merchants linked to tourism are feeling the impact of the shortage of the US currency.

Ampuero highlighted that “the impact of the lack of dollars is varied because tourism has a very diverse economic fabric throughout the country.”

The leader specified that “the lack of dollars makes our recovery after the pandemic slower.”

Therefore, “we need more state measures to help tourism.” For now, “government support is not sufficient.”

“In Bolivia, we have a closed skies policy that directly harms local tourism,” he stated.

“We are being left alone with an inadequate model,” he complained.
