Mining cooperatives will surround La Paz this Monday with 20 blocking points.

Given the announcement of mobilizations and blockades by mining cooperatives at the Government Headquarters, demanding attention to their petition, the deputy for the Creemos group, María Rene Álvarez, repudiated the destruction caused by gold mining and denounced that this sector intends to overwhelm indigenous territories and take protected areas.

“It is proven that the mercury with which gold is extracted is highly harmful to health and is contaminating rivers, crops and the populations that live on the rivers and in the Bolivian Amazon,” she emphasized.

Likewise, Álvarez blamed the governments of the Movement for Socialism for having promoted irresponsible mining extractivism, through concessions and incentives aimed at strengthening the sector for political purposes and other interests.

On the other hand, the Regional Federation of Gold Mining Cooperatives of La Paz (Fecoman) ratified a state of mobilization and march starting this Monday in the city of La Paz as a sign of protest against the Government for the lack of attention to their demands. .

The president of Fecoman, Ramiro Balmaceda, said that his affiliates demand the approval of the Bill for the Creation of the Single Tax Regime of 4.8% for the commercialization of gold, stopping the encroachments and actions against illegal mining.
