Choré Forest Reserve is non-existent due to deforestation | Reserva forestal del Choré es inexistente por la deforestación

El Mundo:

The El Choré Forest Production Reserve, created through a Supreme Decree of 1966, for the exclusive use of wood, today is almost non-existent due to deforestation, expansion of the agricultural frontier and encroachments. “Currently in this area there is not a single logging activity, all there is is agriculture and even coca plantations.” said Ávila.

The effects on this Forest Reserve have been described as “an ecological crime.” The Choré was the regulator and generator of the water resources that feed the underground rivers captured by the integrated North and the city of Santa Cruz. In addition, it acted as a natural barrier against the winds coming from Moxos and stopped wind erosion. This type of inappropriate practices is being repeated in the Guarayos Forest Production Reserve and in the Bajo Paraguá Reserve; in the Chiquitania area of the department of Santa Cruz, as well as in Pando, Beni, and in the north of La Paz.
