Carlos Valverde tiene razón cuando dice —y escribe— que el MAS, en su afán de terminar con la vida de Jeanine Áñez, está errando el camino y la va a convertir en una heroína americana. Para muchos de los bolivianos la expresidente ya es una heroína, hoy mismo; por su coraje y por soportar a costa de su deteriorada salud medio año de infame confinamiento en la cárcel de Miraflores, y otros seis meses más de “detención preventiva” que ya le han anunciado.

No es necesario volver a referirse a los motivos del abuso que se está cometiendo, ante la mirada miope y anodina del presidente Arce Catacora, siempre temeroso de Evo Morales, como muchos somos temerosos de Dios. Reiterar que la señora Jeanine Áñez solo cumplió con su deber constitucional es lo único que importa, pero resulta ocioso repetirlo para los oídos sordos del MAS. Eso indigna a los masistas, y como Morales sabe que al huir despavorido y tratar de cortar la sucesión legal a la presidencia eliminando los derechos de su partido, le falló el conocimiento de la Constitución, quiere enmendar su error de otro modo, tergiversando la verdad, y entonces, ahora, a Áñez se la acusa hasta de golpista genocida, pasando por otras aberraciones. ¿Pero estos ignorantes sabrán lo que es genocidio?

El MAS y su jefe han vuelto a utilizar lo que han practicado desde que asumieron el poder: la sinuosidad. Son sinuosos. Pareciera ser un mal de los de su clase eso de esconder lo que verdaderamente quieren hacer. Ocultan sus propósitos de una forma sibilina, expresando a la gente —enemigos o amigos—, todo lo contrario de lo que piensan realizar. Lo importante es nunca decir la verdad, jamás demostrar sus verdaderas intenciones ni sentimientos. De ahí los fraudes electorales, las mentiras sobre golpes, los embustes sobre cifras de crecimiento económico, los engaños en las negociaciones, y, lo que es su mejor arma, las prevaricaciones en una justicia que manejan a su antojo.

Lamentablemente esto de la doblez, del fingimiento, de la hipocresía, es un mal que, sin razón, nos humilla a todos los bolivianos, porque no todos somos así. El simulador acartonado de corbata o el fingidor de chompa o chamarra son un peligro absoluto, porque, con corbata o sin ella, son lo mismo. El prototipo de los llamados “dos caras”. Alguien de quien nada se puede creer y menos confiar. Ahora, Jeanine Áñez, como antes Leopoldo Fernández, los jóvenes acusados del Hotel Las Américas y cientos de casos más, han pasado por esas manos: las de los sinuosos.

Esta especie de sujetos no asesina violentamente como en otras dictaduras. Ya le hubieran pegado un tiro a Leopoldo o a Jeanine. O los habrían colgado en sus celdas fingiendo un suicidio. Asesinaron en el Hotel Las Américas y han matado en varios enfrentamientos aprovechando de la multitud, como en La Calancha o Senkata, donde es fácil culpar a otros. Es que la sinuosidad no es amiga del disparo ni del estrangulamiento; es de la mentira. No te sacan de tu cama a patadas a media noche; más bien te citan a declarar en una audiencia preparada por magistrados de mirada ratonil, donde más te vale llevar ya en el bolsillo el cepillo de dientes y el jabón, porque serás detenido “preventivamente”.

Las suciedades que están haciendo con Jeanine Áñez han trascendido las fronteras hace mucho. Pero eso, en vez de intimidarlos, parece darles una animación morbosa, que los incita a persistir en la maldad y a buscar aliados de su misma calaña. Hay noticias de que la señora Áñez ha sido postulada para el Premio Sájarov, establecido por la Unión Europea por la defensa de la libertad de conciencia y quien primero lo recibió fue Nelson Mandela. Muy justo.

Eso del premio, para los sinuosos, es un hecho que les debe causar una ansiedad malsana. Como ya han expresado que el criterio de la Unión Europea es despreciable porque ha coincidido con la OEA en lo que se refirió al fraude electoral de 2019, tratarán de tomarlo a broma, a chunga. O tal vez los enfurezca al extremo de torturar más aún a su víctima cautiva, siempre en silencio, bisbiseando maldades entre ellos, llevándola al límite de su resistencia.

Carlos Valverde is right when he says -and writes- that the MAS, in its eagerness to end the life of Jeanine Áñez, is losing its way and is going to turn her into an American heroine. For many of the Bolivians, the former president is already a hero, today; for her courage and for enduring half a year of infamous confinement in the Miraflores jail at the cost of her deteriorating health, and another six months of “preventive detention” that has already been announced to her.

It is not necessary to refer again to the reasons for the abuse that is being committed, before the myopic and anodyne gaze of President Arce Catacora, always fearful of Evo Morales, as many of us are fearful of God. To reiterate that Mrs. Jeanine Áñez only fulfilled her constitutional duty is the only thing that matters, but it is useless to repeat it for the deaf ears of the MAS. This outrages the masistas, and as Morales knows that by fleeing in terror and trying to cut off the legal succession to the presidency by eliminating the rights of his party, his knowledge of the Constitution failed him, he wants to amend his error in another way, distorting the truth. And then, now, Áñez is even accused of being a genocidal coup leader, going through other aberrations. But will these ignorant people know what genocide is?

The MAS and its boss have returned to what they have practiced since they came to power: sinuosity. They are sinuous. It seems to be an evil of their kind to hide what they really want to do. They hide their purposes in a sibylline way, expressing to people —enemies or friends— the complete opposite of what they intend to do. The important thing is to never tell the truth, never show their true intentions or feelings. Hence the electoral fraud, the lies about coups, the lies about economic growth figures, the deceptions in the negotiations, and, what is their best weapon, the prevarications in a justice that they handle at will.

Unfortunately, this of the double, of the pretense, of the hypocrisy, is an evil that, without reason, humiliates all Bolivians, because not all of us are like that. The stiff simulator of a tie or the simulator of a sweater or jacket are an absolute danger, because, with or without a tie, they are the same thing. The prototype of the so-called “two faces”. Someone of whom nothing can be believed and less trusted. Now, Jeanine Áñez, like Leopoldo Fernández before, the young defendants of the Hotel Las Américas and hundreds of other cases, have passed through those hands: those of the sinuous.

This species of subjects does not murder violently as in other dictatorships. They would have already shot Leopold or Jeanine. Or they would have been hung in their cells feigning suicide. They assassinated in the Hotel Las Américas and have killed in several confrontations taking advantage of the crowd, as in La Calancha or Senkata, where it is easy to blame others. They don’t kick you out of your bed at midnight; rather, they summon you to testify at a hearing prepared by magistrates with a mousy gaze, where it is better to carry the toothbrush and soap in your pocket, because you will be detained “preventively”.

The dirty things they are doing with Jeanine Áñez have transcended borders a long time ago. But that, instead of intimidating them, seems to give them a morbid animation, which encourages them to persist in evil and to seek allies of the same ilk. There is news that Mrs. Áñez has been nominated for the Sakharov Prize, established by the European Union for the defense of freedom of conscience and who first received it was Nelson Mandela. Very fair.

That of the prize, for the sinuous, is a fact that must cause them an unhealthy anxiety. As they have already expressed that the criterion of the European Union is despicable because it has coincided with the OAS in what referred to the electoral fraud of 2019, they will try to take it as a joke, a dodgy one. Or perhaps it infuriates them to the extreme of torturing her captive victim even more, always in silence, whispering evil among them, pushing her to the limit of her resistance.
