This cartoon is from El Diario, 9/13/11. It shows how common citizens perceive the problems we face daily. There are black clouds filled with strikes, marches, protests, pressing measures, blockades. While government officials, ministers and congressmen do not suffer as we do.
Today there is a strike in the Chiquitania, road and railroad will be blocked, they are demanding the government legalizes the used cars that they bought from smugglers. Trains have stopped their operations indefinitely, as no one knows if the demand will be met or not.
The TIPNIS marching group still faces threats in Yucumo, Caranavi from those who do not want them to walk to La Paz; blockaders are asking marchers to come to an agreement with the government, so the road can be built.
It is still uncertain whether blackouts in Bolivia are solved or will continue, thus affecting our industry.
Miners are demanding the government to take over private ventures.
Leopoldo Fernandez, elected Governor from Pando, is in his third year in jail, no process, no sentence but he is still in jail; today he is in the hospital as his health continues to be deteriorated.
Many individuals have decided to “self-exile” as governmental persecution is in order. A number of people went to Brazil, Paraguay (elected Governor of Tarija), Peru and the USA.
And so on, black clouds cover our beautiful land…
