Bolivian government failed to reach dialogue with TIPNIS protest walk group

El Deber reports in its website, as it was announced the night of August 30, 2011, three ministers flew on August 31, 2011 from La Paz city to San Borja, town which is 22 kilometers away from the place the TIPNIS protest walking group was “waiting.” Government officials failed to convince the indigenous leaders to have the meeting in San Borja. Ministers were Sacha Llorenti (Government); Carlos Romero (Presidency); and Claudia Peña (Autonomies).

These ministers met with San Borja Mayor Jorge Añez, and some social sectors in that municipality. After that, they sent a letter to the TIPNIS group, to start-up the dialogue. However, the reply was negative from the indigenous group. After seven hours, ministers flew back to La Paz empty-handed.

According to some sources in San Borja, EL Deber reports that the indigenous group requests that at least ten ministers should arrive to sit and lead the working tables for the 16 points presented to the government. The crossing over the TIPNIS territory is considered as the most difficult and important.
