This statement summarizes what former elected Vice-President Victor Hugo Cardenas said, in a radio program –Panamericana- on Sunday August 7, 2011: Governmental messages leave a feeling of uncertainty and confrontation. Cardenas said that the messages from the authorities during the National festivities and the Army anniversary leave a sensation of uncertainty and confrontation, and also show a government who is “disoriented.”
“These national holidays shows all Bolivians anchored under uncertainty and confrontation with a disoriented government (…) There is no international strategy, no economic strategies nor policies, neither social policy.” Cardenas expressed that both speeches from current president and vice-president give no clarity to important issues like: energy crisis, a probable confrontation between indigenous people and coca growers over the TIPNIS, food insecurity and the conflict with Chile.
He was sorry that the government insists with the confrontational speech, he explained that today they identify as enemies of the nation, to the indigenous of TIPNIS, like they did before with regional leaders, the media, the Catholic Church, the USA or Chile.
“The president limited himself to expose the internal problems of MAS (his political party); management difficulties, inefficient budgetary execution, corruption, cooperativism or pressure from social groups. The country has not elected government officials so they can complain, but to identify problems and to find the best solutions”, explained Cardenas.
Nevertheless, the former vice-president has hope that during the judicial elections, it will be a big step forward to the democratic process, stopping the authoritarian intent and showing that the Bolivians want real democracy. “Governments go by and the people stay” he affirmed.
