Following the agreement reached by the Government and the leadership of the Bolivian Workers’ Central (COB), financial analyst and former presidential pre-candidate Jaime Dunn highlighted that the decision to withdraw fuel subsidies was maintained as a necessary measure; however, he questioned that the mobilized sectors are not defending an economic argument, but rather a prebendal and corrupt mechanism of power.

Through his social media, Dunn referred to the agreement that allowed the lifting of pressure measures by the COB and its affiliates, in exchange for the repeal of Supreme Decree 5503, lamenting that union pressure tied to organized and violent interests confirms that Bolivia is not governed by the law or by the citizen.

“What was decided regarding fuel subsidies remains because it was inevitable. But on the political plane, the COB obtains victory and the message is clear: the MAS model adjusts, but is not touched, demonstrating that the prebendal and corrupt system sustained by union structures remains intact,” he stated.

In his view, a “failed left,” led by the COB, did not defend an economic argument, but rather defended a mechanism of power and tested the government.

“Let us be clear: a country where violent corporations decide State policies does not attract investment; it drives it away. Moreover, it becomes clear that in Bolivia the problem is not technical: it is moral. Bolivia is not poor; it has been impoverished by the capture of the State by minorities who live off the effort of others,” concluded the liberal leader, assuring that the way out of the current situation is not to manage the decay of statism, but to dismantle it.
