The Eastern Agricultural Chamber (CAO) denounced that land grabbing continues to escalate in violence and poses a direct threat to life, the economy, and the country’s food production.

“We hope the law is enforced, that they arrest whoever needs to be arrested so this doesn’t continue. Because if the land seizures go one step further, there will be Bolivian lives lost. And we don’t want that,” said Klaus Frerking, president of the Eastern Agricultural Chamber.

“Ending the week with an act of violence, an act of insecurity, and a lack of respect for private property has us deeply concerned. We are worried — Mr. Felipe Barbieri was held captive with 25 or 30 people, his manager was shot in the arm, fired at point-blank range. This simply cannot continue in the country. And it’s not just happening here in Santa Cruz — we’re also seeing land takeovers in Cochabamba, Tarija, and Beni,” stated the CAO president.

“Santa Cruz needs to move forward in freedom, and we cannot live in constant fear because of a clan of relatives or organized mafias that prevent us from producing,” he added.
