On Tuesday, the dollar surpassed the Bs 15 mark and was quoted at Bs 15.73. In response, the president of the Chamber of Exporters, Logistics and Investment Promotion of Santa Cruz (Cadex), Oswaldo Barriga, stated that this situation is due to poor economic management, a model that is not working and is generating speculation and contraction. He said the announcement of the wage increase also affected the exchange rate fluctuation.
“A 10 and 5% increase only generates more inflationary pressure, more inflation… as long as Bolivia does not change its management model, it will have a situation. The crisis is beginning, it is starting to be felt in the pockets of Bolivians,” he said.
He added that the entire agri-productive chain faces some type of restriction, such as quotas and price bands, which he believes only generate speculation and lead various products to be sent abroad.
He emphasized that any intervention in production causes a decrease in output, which has coincided with the dollar fluctuation.
He stated that the solutions are to change the economic model, which is currently harming Bolivians, and to lift the export restrictions on products that are currently limited. “Bolivia needs dollars,” he insisted.
He argued that the Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) has currently lost its independence and, for that reason, will not be able to implement a monetary policy that is effective for the Bolivian economy.

El martes, el dólar superó el pico de Bs 15 y se cotizó Bs 15,73. Ante ello, el presidente de la Cámara de Exportadores, Logística y Promoción de Inversiones de Santa Cruz (Cadex), Oswaldo Barriga, señaló que esta situación se debe a un mal manejo de la economía, a un modelo que no está funcionando y que está generando especulación y contracción. Aseguró que el anuncio del incremento salarial afectó igual en la variación.
”Un incremento del 10 y 5% lo único que genera es más presión inflacionaria, mayor inflación… mientras Bolivia no cambie su modelo de gestión va tener una situación. La crisis está empezando, está empezando a sentirse en los bolsillos de los bolivianos”, sostuvo.
Acotó que toda la cadena agroproductiva tiene algún tipo de restricciones, como cupos y banda de precios, que consideró que lo único que hacen es generar especulación y que distintos productos salgan al exterior.
Ante ello, remarcó que en el momento que se interviene en la producción provoca que disminuya, lo que estuvo acompañado con la variación del dólar.
Sostuvo que las soluciones son cambiar el modelo económico, que en la actualidad está afectando a los bolivianos y liberar las exportaciones de productos que ahora tienen restricción. “Bolivia necesita dólares”, insistió.
Consideró que en la actualidad el Banco Central de Bolivia (BCB) dejó su independencia y por eso no podrá manejar su política monetaria que sea eficiente para la economía boliviana.
