Congresswoman Toribia Lero (CC), while emphasizing that Evo Morales cannot escape his responsibilities with the justice system, stated that the population should not forget the nearly twenty years of MAS rule, during which corruption and drug trafficking levels increased.

The representative from the Cochabamba department pointed out that corruption and drug trafficking have been the hallmark of MAS governments, led by Morales and Arce, administrations that tried to conceal this reality through a manipulated justice system that only favored the interests of those in power.

“To camouflage their impact, they weaponized the justice system in their favor and in favor of the Movimiento al Socialismo. Our country has been dragged down by corruption for twenty years and they remain unpunished,” the legislator asserted.

She questioned how the so-called “nationalization of the fight against drug trafficking” had disastrously failed, leading to uncontrollable levels of insecurity and violence among a defenseless population demanding action from their authorities, but finding no effective response to this request.

“Violence and drug trafficking have spiraled out of control, and all of this is the fault of Evo Morales and Luis Arce,” she stated, mentioning that under the leadership of the coca grower, not only did the levels of insecurity, corruption, and drug trafficking increase, but also crimes against humanity were committed.

Regarding the decision of the “Evista” faction in the MAS to leave this political organization in protest of having lost control of their emblem, Lero accused Morales of trying to “wash his hands” by fleeing to another party, and also attempting to make people forget the nearly twenty years of Bolivia’s destruction in collaboration with his close circle.

“The MAS, in its process of decay, has lost its direction to the point that its eternal leader and his followers are fleeing like rats, abandoning the ship. Let us remember that Evo Morales committed crimes against humanity, like what happened in Chaparina, Tacovo Mora, or in the Hotel Las Américas. He cannot escape his responsibility just as he is escaping from the MAS,” she argued.

Reiterating that Morales is ineligible to run as a presidential candidate for MAS or any other political party, Lero stressed that no agreement could overturn that situation or the former authority’s responsibilities.

“As established by the Political Constitution of the State, Constitutional Rulings, and a Consultative Opinion of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, where it is clearly stated that reelection is not a human right, and in addition to this, the overwhelming rejection by the Bolivian people in 2016, Morales is a power-hungry individual, a violator of the law, and wants to return to the presidency by force, despite carrying serious crimes on his back,” she added.

This week, after signing an agreement between Evo Morales and the Frente Para la Victoria, a supposed “mass resignation” of Movimiento al Socialismo militants began, with many going to the Supreme Electoral Court’s facilities to formally withdraw their membership from the blue party, as was ordered by their radical leadership.

From the “Arcista” faction, Deputy Andrés Flores predicted that only a small percentage of militants would officially leave and challenged “Evista” Senators and Deputies to follow suit by resigning from their parliamentary seats.

“We won’t mourn this betrayal to the MAS. They say a million militants will resign, but this is false. Not everyone will be able to resign; I’d say about 30% will, the ones who are fanatics of Evo Morales. We’ll see later what actions we take,” he said.

Previously, Deputy Juan José Jáuregui had commented on the issue, asserting that this possibility would lead to activating the necessary mechanisms for the return of the seats.

Yesterday, Evista Senator Lucy Escobar reported that Morales had submitted his resignation from MAS through a delegate, but the TSE rejected this process as it must be done personally.

In Lero’s opinion, the “mass resignation” of the “Evistas” from the MAS is just another “political show” that, if real, should have been led by Andrónico Rodríguez, Leonardo Loza, and Héctor Arce.

“They are not millions, just a few who seized power and used indigenous people and the poor as cannon fodder and political pawns. Today, they want to come back by buying a party, FPV, to continue this disaster,” she concluded.
