The National Chamber of Industries (CNI) expressed its rejection of the seventh additional provision of the 2025 General State Budget (PGE), which allows the confiscation or seizure of products from companies. The entity requested President Luis Arce to eliminate it to avoid a climate of legal uncertainty.

In a statement, the CNI described the measure as an “arbitrary provision” that authorizes the competent entities to carry out control, oversight, confiscation, and/or seizure actions on food companies that store, withhold, and/or attempt to raise the prices of their products.

Negative impacts highlighted by the industrial sector

The CNI warned that this provision could become a “discretionary, arbitrary, repressive, and extortive instrument.”

It also stated that the measure could lead to shortages, discourage production, reduce investment and employment, affect tax revenues, and promote smuggling. “While South American countries create favorable and suitable conditions to boost private initiative, in Bolivia, laws are being promoted that completely deter national and foreign investments,” the statement adds.
