Mobilization with Empty Pots

  • Social sectors protest over the lack of dollars, fuel, and the high cost of basic household products. A public assembly set a 15-day deadline for the government to present a proposal for solutions.
The march of sectors, with empty pots, took over the main arteries of the city, and through a public assembly, they are demanding government proposals to overcome the economic crisis the country is facing.

The street vendors, transport workers, neighborhood associations, artisans, and other social sectors staged protest marches yesterday, rejecting the socioeconomic situation the country is experiencing due to the lack of dollars, fuel shortages, and the alarming rise in prices of basic household goods.

At the end of the march, members of these social sectors held a public assembly where they decided to give the government a 15-day deadline to propose solutions to these problems.

The protesters argue that their pressure tactic arises because the 10-day deadline promised by President Luis Arce Catacora to normalize the supply and prices of fuel and basic household goods has expired. They warned that the mobilization will be even stronger if their demands are not addressed.

Meanwhile, amid social discontent over the country’s economic situation and recent reports placing Bolivia in “high-risk” positions, National Assembly member for Chuquisaca, Marcelo Pedrazas, stated that both the government and the political class have failed to respond to a population demanding solutions, prioritizing political and electoral concerns instead.
