Exporting does not mean that there will be dollars! | ¡Exportar no significa que habrá dólares!

El Periodico, Eju.tv:

For Caincotar, Bolivia’s exports will not solve the dollar shortage problem

Foreign trade revenues are minimal, and the conflict over the lack of U.S. dollars requires long-term policies, stated the president, Marina Ruiz.

The country’s exports will not solve the problem of the dollar shortage, which requires long-term policies from the national government. The lack of U.S. currency is significantly affecting the country.

“We have to understand that Bolivia’s exports are small and limited, and these exports will not solve the issue of the dollar shortage,” confirmed Marina Ruiz Baldivieso, President of Caincotar.

The business sector is deeply concerned about the recent events in the country. Political issues, such as blockades, are harming both the private sector and the entire economy, leading to losses for businesses.

“Raw materials aren’t reaching their destinations or the distribution centers, which is a huge setback for the sector,” added Ruiz after an event focused on strengthening the production industry.

The dollar shortage is a very complicated, structural issue that won’t be resolved through meetings with the government. Long-term measures are required, and if the correct policies are implemented, improvements can be expected in the short term, she stated.

Regarding Customs’ announcements about actions to facilitate imports and exports, such as the Single Window system, she noted that some of the topics discussed between the government and businesses are being implemented.

“We have worked as the National Chamber of Industry and Commerce to waive some tariffs on importing essential food supplies and raw materials for the production of medicines,” she reported.

A list of necessary inputs was presented, prepared in collaboration with all the Chambers, to ensure they receive the same treatment. She emphasized that dollars are also essential for exports, and although exports have been freed, it is not enough.

Caincotar, together with the European Union (EU) and commercial institutes, decided to boost the tourism sector in Tarija by training instructors from these institutes on how to serve tourists, who will then teach their students.

THE DETAILS

Regarding their participation in Exposur 2024 in October, she replied that they will not be part of the fair, which is organized by the departmental government without the involvement of the private sector or any of its associations.

Asked why they are not participating, she responded that they were not considered or invited to join the event. Private businesses should be part of the organization, but that is not happening.

However, each entrepreneur is free to participate on their own if they wish.
