In response to the various sectors demanding solutions to the crisis, Senator Daly Santamaría from Comunidad Ciudadana (CC) criticized the government of the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) for consistently blaming external factors for the country’s poor economic management instead of proposing solutions to resolve the situation.

Expressing concern over the economic crisis affecting the country, the opposition assembly member lamented that the President prioritizes partisan political matters and power struggles within the ruling party over the needs of the population during tough times.

Rejecting recent statements by President Luis Arce Catacora, who blamed the ALP for not approving international loans for project implementation, Santamaría pointed out that such excuses are recurrent from the government when attempting to justify its poor economic management and lack of response to the crisis.

“First, he blamed COVID-19 and the transitional government, then he blamed the war, acknowledging globalization, and now he tries to find a scapegoat in the Assembly, especially in the Senate. It’s almost laughable and outrageous,” she said.

Last week, during an event in the Chuquisaca department, President Luis Arce labeled senators who refuse to approve loans for project execution as freeloaders [“mank’agastos”].

“The people need projects, and for that, we need to move forward by approving those laws that they, selfishly, keep hidden under their desks, these ‘mank’agastos’ who are doing nothing for the Bolivian people, failing to fulfill the popular mandate,” stated Arce.
