LUIS ARCE, JAILER OF EVO MORALES | LUIS ARCE, CARCELERO DE EVO MORALES

Editorial, El Dia:

In the somber gloom of the Bolivian cells, a cry of desperation and resistance resonates loudly. Political prisoners in Bolivia, victims of a humiliating and corrupt judicial system, cry out for justice and freedom under the oppressive regime of Luis Arce. The situation of these prisoners, among them well-known names such as Marcel Rivas, Luis Fernando Camacho and Jeanine Áñez, highlights the sad reality of a country mired in repression and political persecution.

Marcel Rivas, former director of Immigration, is in a critical situation, carrying out a hunger strike in the San Pedro prison. His delicate state of health and his determination to protest against the Arce government and the corrupt judges and prosecutors who prolong his imprisonment are a symbol of the tireless struggle of political prisoners in Bolivia. Rivas, like many others, is trapped in a rigged judicial system, where sentences are handed down for political reasons and dissenting voices are brutally silenced.

Luis Fernando Camacho, governor of Santa Cruz, is another visible face of oppression in Bolivia. Arrested for his fight against fraud and dictatorship. His arrest has raised concerns both inside and outside the country. The inhuman conditions of his detention and the degrading treatment that he has denounced are palpable evidence of the abuses of power perpetrated by the Arce regime.

Jeanine Áñez, former transitional and constitutional president of Bolivia, has also been a victim of the Government’s repressive machinery. Sentenced to 10 years in prison for charges concocted by the dictatorship, she represents the fight against political persecution in the country. Her case illustrates the vulnerability of those who dare to challenge the dominant hegemony.

The international community has raised its voice against these injustices. Investigations by human rights organizations and the recent United States report expose arbitrary detentions, torture, lack of judicial independence and restrictions on freedom of expression in Bolivia. The international community observes with horror how fundamental rights are violated with impunity by the “process of change.”

Freedom and justice are inalienable rights that must be guaranteed for all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation. International pressure on the Arce Government is essential to ensure the release of political prisoners and the establishment of a transparent and impartial judicial system in Bolivia.

In the midst of the darkness that surrounds political prisoners in Bolivia, their courage and resistance are a light of hope. Facing adversity with determination, these individuals remind us of the importance of the fight for justice and freedom. It is our responsibility to stand in solidarity with their cause and demand significant change in Bolivia. The world is watching and waiting for justice to be served for those who have been unjustly deprived of their freedom and basic rights.

Although they are supposedly estranged and Luis Arce reproaches Evo Morales for his cowardice for having fled the country, the current president holds hostage all those who fought against fraud in 2019, tortures them, manipulates justice and persecutes anyone. that questions the dictatorial course that the government has taken.
