82.8% Of Bolivians Generate Their Own Employment | El 82.8 % De Los Bolivianos Genera Su Propio Empleo

El Mundo:

The main leader of the Confederation of Trade Unionists of Bolivia, César González, has emphasized that the unemployment statistics provided by the government are considerably far from reality.

González underlined the presence of his organization in more than 300 municipalities, highlighting that new merchants emerge every day due to the growing shortage of employment, which increases the number of citizens who are forced to seek sustenance on the streets, often facing the hostility from municipal authorities.

The leader affirmed that the data they have is solid and incontestable. “Until the year 2022, our organization compiled statistics that revealed that trade unions number 2,800,000 people, and if we add self-employed workers, we exceed 6 million citizens who generate their own means of subsistence,” he explained. This means that 82.8% of Bolivians are forced to generate their own employment, without access to social security, employment benefits or state benefits, despite the fact that the government collects taxes from them.

Likewise, González pointed out that only 18% of the Bolivian population has a job, and within this group, only 10% have formal employment, while the remaining 8% work in the public sector.
