Jesus children with a doctor’s suit and chinstrap to ask for 0 infections

Craftswomen make biosecurity accessories to dress the images. Some lost family members to the pandemic or caught the virus.

“The Covid-19 pandemic took our family, brothers and friends. I lost my son and it hurts a lot, “said Eloisa García, one of the artisans who made chinstraps and biosafety supplies to dress the Child Jesus for Christmas 2020. In addition to making designs inspired by the doctors’ costumes, she and her colleagues agreed that the new models represent a show of faith and a special request: to avoid more infections in a second wave of the virus.

With hope, the artisans expose the new designs to dress the Child Jesus at the Christmas Fair in the Central Urban Park. “The pandemic has not gone away yet. They announced a regrowth for the month of March. For this reason, with faith, we ask the Child to take care of us, to take care of our family for the following year,” commented García, who is also the general secretary of the commerce sector of this encounter.

Informal commerce was one of the sectors hardest hit by the application of strict quarantine due to the pandemic. This sector did not go out to work and get their daily livelihood. In September, when artisans began preparations for the Christmas Fair, vendors feared the event would be suspended.

“I had faith and the return of the Christmas Fair was fulfilled. I made a special request to the Baby (Jesus). At the risk of losing everything, we began to prepare the biosecurity suits. Now it is a success. We have sale,” said the merchant and indicated that now she is hopeful that the pandemic can come to an end. “So we will embrace again without fear,” she said.

Artesanas elaboran accesorios de bioseguridad para vestir las imágenes. Algunas perdieron familiares a causa de la pandemia o se contagiaron del virus.

“La pandemia de la Covid-19 se llevó a nuestros familiares, hermanos y  amigos. Yo perdí a mi hijo y me duele mucho”, dijo Eloisa García, una de las artesanas que elaboró barbijos e insumos de bioseguridad para vestir al Niño Jesús en la Navidad 2020. Además de confeccionar diseños inspirados en los trajes de los médicos, ella y sus compañeras coincidieron que los nuevos modelos representan una muestra de fe y un pedido especial: evitar más contagios en una segunda ola del virus.

Con esperanza, las artesanas exponen los nuevos diseños para vestir al Niño Jesús en la Feria Navideña del Parque Urbano Central. “La pandemia no se fue todavía. Anunciaron un rebrote para el mes de marzo. Por eso, con fe, pedimos al Niño que nos cuide, que cuide a nuestra familia para el siguiente año”, comentó García, quien es también la secretaria general del sector comercio de este encuentro. 

El comercio informal fue uno de los sectores más golpeados por la aplicación de la cuarentena estricta a causa de la pandemia. Este sector no salió a trabajar y conseguir el sustento diario. En septiembre,  cuando los artesanos comenzaron los preparativos para la Feria Navideña, los vendedores temían por la suspensión del evento. 

“Tenía fe y se cumplió el retorno de la Feria Navideña. Hice un pedido especial al Niño (Jesús). A riesgo de perder todo, comenzamos a preparar los trajes de bioseguridad. Ahora es un éxito. Tenemos venta”, afirmó la comerciante e indicó que ahora  tiene la esperanza de que la pandemia pueda llegar a su fin. “Así nos volveremos a abrazar sin miedo”, sostuvo.

The design inspired by the doctors suit was made by artisan Betty Quisbert. “They were the heroes of the whole world. For that reason, we made this outfit,” she said, adding that the other reason is more personal: her son is a doctor. “He told us what to do, how to take care of ourselves. Luckily no one in my family got sick,” she commented.

This model consists of an apron, pants, a shirt and a tiny chinstrap, all accessories are white. “The little buyers want news. Every year they look for new designs, “said the artisan and indicated that for this year “only” 600 units were made because the models are very complex and require many details.

This year, only half of the exhibitors participate in the Christmas Fair, reported Rafael Choque, executive secretary of the Casco Urbano Central Navideños Fair. “We are 5,800 fairgrounds, but this year we will not all participate. Many asked for a license. We are present now between 2,800 to 3,000, almost half,” he said. What is the reason for this great absence? Many got sick and others are afraid of contagion from Covid-19.

El diseño inspirado en el traje de los médicos fue confeccionado por la artesana Betty Quisbert. “Ellos fueron los héroes de todo el mundo. Por esa razón, hicimos esta vestimenta”, dijo y agregó que el otro motivo es más personal: su hijo es doctor. “Él nos decía qué debemos hacer, cómo cuidarnos. Por suerte nadie se enfermó en mi familia”, comentó.

Este modelo consiste en un mandil, un pantalón, una polera y un diminuto barbijo, todos los accesorios son de color blanco. “Las caseritas quieren novedades. Cada año buscan nuevos diseños”, dijo la artesana e indicó que para este año “sólo” se confeccionaron 600 unidades porque los modelos son muy complejos y exigen muchos detalles.

Este año, en la Feria Navideña  sólo participan la mitad de los expositores, informó Rafael Choque, secretario ejecutivo de la Feria  Casco Urbano Central  Navideños. “Somos 5.800 feriantes, pero este año no participaremos todos.  Muchos pidieron licencia. Estamos presentes ahora entre 2.800 a 3.000, casi la mitad”, dijo. ¿Cuál es la razón de esta gran ausencia? Muchos se enfermaron y otros tienen miedo al contagio de la Covid-19.

Guadalupe, another of the artisans, presents masks and biosecurity suits for Baby Jesus. She said that she lived very difficult days due to the total restriction due to Covid. “We had a very bad time due to the pandemic, we couldn’t get out of it, we couldn’t get money because we live from day to day. She left at 3:00 to Tumusla (avenue) to sell bleach and at 6:00 she returned to my house because the controls were beginning,” she explained.

Betty Vásquez, una mujer de la tercera edad, salió a vender los trajes de bioseguridad para el Niño Jesús  “con mucha fe”, pese a los riesgos y luego de vencer el virus. “Muchas personas tienen fe en el (hijo de Dios). Por la pandemia  me pidieron incluir barbijo e insumos de bioseguridad en los modelos. En Cochabamba, una enfermera vistió (a la imagen)  con un barbijo y pidió por la salud de sus pacientes y su familia”, dijo y aseguró que así nació  la idea para crear este modelo.

Guadalupe, otra de las artesanas, presenta máscaras y trajes de bioseguridad para el Niño Jesús. Contó que vivió días muy difíciles por la restricción total a causa de la Covid. “La pasamos muy mal por pandemia, no podíamos salir, no podíamos conseguir dinero porque vivimos al día. Salía a las  3:00 a la (avenida) Tumusla para vender lavandina y a las 6:00  regresaba  a mi casa porque comenzaban los controles”, explicó.
