El Diario reports:
Bolivia untapped European markets without paying tariffs
Bolivia, like other nations in the region, does not properly take advantage of the 9,000 franchises granted by the European Community for the export of products that can enter without payment of duties, said yesterday [4/16/2014] the Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union in Bolivia, Tim Torlot.
The diplomat expressed concern that Bolivia is not taking advantage of the benefit of the General System of Preferences – Plus (GSP Plus) that allows the country to introduce their products to the EU market, duty free.
On the other hand, it was also found that the benefit was extended to “the next 10 years”, after this period Bolivia will have to survive without this trade agreement. “The government is now starting again negotiations to enter into this task,” said Ambassador Torlot.
Meanwhile, the President of the Bolivian Institute of Foreign Trade (IBCE), José Luis Landivar, said the facilities granted by the European Community for Bolivian exports means the country must take the most advantage of the European market demand.
• Bolivia fails to consolidate GSP benefits in Europe
It is absurd to watch current central government “talk” about trade with the ridiculous ALBA. Populist and demagogue regimes do lot of noise but when it is time to really support job creation, value added for our products, do nothing!
