Short film Salt Lake is in the Oscar race

Juan Carlos Aduviri makes news once more.

2012-12-01 11.15.44 amJuan Carlos Aduviri makes news once more. The Salar, short-film of the British Nicholas Greene and starring the Bolivian actor, was shortlisted by the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Hollywood to compete for one of five seats on the list of nominees for the Oscar in the category best short film.

“It’s a short that I filmed in January 2010 in the salar de Uyuni”, said the actor, who made his debut in films with a role in the Spanish tape “Tambien la lluvia” [also the rain].

The short is about an American who works at the Red Cross and has serious problems as the scenes so raw that he has seen throughout his life. He then decides to go to the salar de Uyuni [salt plain located near the city of Uyuni in Potosi Department] to work as a doctor.

“My character is Carlos, a miner of salt and is a kind of reverse racist. We are accustomed to that racism from the white to the Indian, Chinese or others. Carlos has an accident and has to go to the hospital and this foreign doctor is the one who has to take care of him, and that creates a conflict,”said.

On the nomination to the Oscar, Aduviri said that the organizers of the Oscar shortlisted the tape along with other ten from other countries. “by January all ten nominations will be known officially”, he said.

According to Aduviri, the tape was awarded in the Netherlands and nominated at other international festivals. “It is a very nice production,” he said.
