Bolivia: TIPNIS; La Paz strike briefs… UPDATE 9/16/11

TIPNIS: Indigenous group received from current Bolivian government, a 15-16 pages letter regarding the issues from the TIPNIS protest walk; only 4 lines of that letter addressed the main issue: road through the TIPNIS (did not respond to the main point and concern of the indigenous people). Indigenous leaders were very critical of Bolivian’s president attitude, and are preparing themselves to re-initiate the walk.

Walking group will not reach Yucumo as there are policemen waiting for them, with orders to stop the march, “to prevent violence between marchers and coca (settlers) blockaders. Two journalists are reported to have received injuries from blockaders; César Tamayo from Fides and Jorge Figueroa from Erbol were injured and their cameras destroyed as they were “guilty” to haven taken pictures from the settlers who are blockading the passage of the TIPNIS group.
