This cartoon appeared today in Los Tiempos. The citizens of Bolivia are on the left staring at two dates and they say “How a speech can change in so little time”
Before 2006: “…in this protest walk, farmers and indigenous people do not curtail sacrifices. There we see women marching with their children… even the elderly, comrades…!”
Today: “…it is an irresponsibility that some indigenous leaders force women, children and elderly to march, comrades…!”
This cartoon summarizes how Bolivian society has seen how speeches vary according to political times, same people have different views and still try to pose as the immaculate leader that only sprays wisdom…
This cartoon is in reference to the TIPNIS protest walk; in earlier marches, the coca growing association and many individuals now in governmental positions were supportive of this type of protest.
At the news-noon program today, Unitel showed discussions in Cochabamba’s central plaza: People in support of the environment, vis-a-vis the TIPNIS. And those who were in favor of road construction. The latter saying that human needs must take over those of wild life (environment which backs up the indigenous groups). Those loud discussions could easily turn violent.
Stakeholders are getting more and more involved and this issue will more likely turn violent as days go by and as the protest walk reaches La Paz.
