Environmental damage in Bolivia

Current government spent a lot of energy and resources to picture themselves as environmentally responsible. However, its actions differ and the most recent threat to the environment is going to be irreversible in the border between the departments of Cochabamba and Beni.

This cartoon appeared yesterday in El Dia newspaper. A person is back stabbing “mother nature” The TIPNIS (Isiboro Secure) is being attacked by a person who wears a hat that has the colors of the indigenous flag that was created to display indigenous groups. A flag that this government included in the national symbols. The blade reads coca and road. The smile explains by itself. This road was labelled as the cocaine-road by former runner-up to the Brazilian presidency.

The TIPNIS’ indigenous group who supported current president’s election is now warning that they will defend their territory with their bows and arrows. This is not the first group who expressed mistrust against the political party in power.
