“There are five people responsible here, and up to today, the Prosecutor’s Office should have placed precautionary liens on the assets of these individuals,” said union leader Toño Siñani.

Union leader Toño Siñani stated that this Friday he will file a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office in La Paz against five individuals whom he claims are responsible for the more than 50 days of road blockades that took place between May and June across the country.

He specified that the complaint is against five people: the country’s vice president, Edmand Lara; the executive secretary of the Bolivian Workers’ Center (COB), Mario Argollo; Túpac Katari peasant leader Vicente Salazar; former president Evo Morales; and alternate senator Nilton Condori.

During a press conference, he displayed the complaint document that he plans to submit to the authorities. “Today we must file a criminal complaint,” he insisted.

Siñani, a leader of the Central de Trabajadores de Bolivia (CTB), criticized the Prosecutor’s Office for not having launched an ex officio investigation to date and for failing to place precautionary liens on the assets of the five individuals whom he accuses of being responsible for the economic losses and damage to highways.

“I am concerned that, up to today, the Prosecutor’s Office has not initiated an investigation on its own,” he reiterated.

Between May and June, Túpac Katari peasants, members of the COB, and supporters of Evo Morales blocked national highways demanding the resignation of Rodrigo Paz.

The COB and the government signed an agreement announcing the lifting of the extreme protest measure. However, the other two groups resisted and refused to enter into dialogue. In response, the government declared a state of emergency. Subsequently, the Túpac Katari peasants and supporters of Evo Morales decided to suspend the blockades temporarily.
