After a delegation of left-wing Argentine activists was detained at the international airport in the city of El Alto, preventing a supposed verification of the human rights situation amid the current social conflicts, legislators from different political forces agreed that the immediate expulsion of any person who arrives in the country to interfere in internal affairs is appropriate.

According to Senator Tomasa Yarhui of the Libre alliance, while the country should maintain the best possible relations with other nations, it cannot allow foreign citizens to enter Bolivia to engage in political interference or take part in internal conflicts.

“If they respect the country’s sovereignty, they are welcome, but if they violate it, they must be expelled. The Foreign Ministry should have full knowledge of whether they are coming as a result of an invitation or otherwise,” stated the legislator representing the department of Chuquisaca.

She also questioned the fact that in recent weeks several Argentine left-wing activists have been making political statements regarding the national situation, an act she described as completely reprehensible and one that requires immediate action by the authorities. “When there is a violation of sovereignty, expulsion should immediately be considered,” she said.

For her part, ruling-party deputy Katherine Pinto criticized Argentine left-wing activists for spreading false narratives abroad regarding an alleged repression of mobilized groups in the country, when, according to her, the reality is quite the opposite.

“In Bolivia, we will not allow interference from other countries, much less from foreign socialist leftists who have done great harm not only to Bolivia but to all of Latin America. Nothing has been done here against human rights; they are liars who deceive the poorest and most vulnerable,” she stated.

Yesterday, Bolivian authorities denied permission to remain in the country to an Argentine delegation made up of politicians, militants, and left-wing activists who supposedly intended to verify the human rights situation amid the current social conflicts.

It was reported that the Argentine delegation arrived at Viru Viru Airport in Santa Cruz and later flew to El Alto Airport, where they were detained and sent back to the Santa Cruz air terminal.
