79% Believe Violence in La Paz Was Planned, According to Brújula Digital Poll

The survey conducted on social media came after clashes, fires, and attacks on public institutions reported Monday in downtown La Paz.

Most participants in an opinion poll carried out by Brújula Digital on social media believe that the violent events recorded Monday in downtown La Paz were previously organized. In response to the question, “Do you believe the violence reported yesterday in the city of La Paz was planned?”, 79% answered yes, while 21% said no.

The poll was released after one of the most violent days seen in recent weeks in the seat of government, marked by clashes between demonstrators and police officers, attacks on public institutions, and damage to state infrastructure.

During Monday’s mobilization, at least five marches from different sectors entered downtown La Paz demanding the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz. The groups advanced through different streets of the historic center and attempted to break through security cordons installed around Plaza Murillo and government buildings.

Police responded with the use of tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, while some protesters used stones, firecrackers, sticks of dynamite, and slingshots during clashes that lasted several hours.

One of the most serious incidents occurred near the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc), where mobilized groups set fire to a police patrol vehicle and an official motorcycle. Images shared by residents showed the vehicles engulfed in flames amid the unrest.

The attacks also reached installations of Mi Teleférico. The Orange and Light Blue lines suffered damage, while the Ministry of Public Works reported damage at stations on the Blue Line in the city of El Alto, where demonstrators shattered windows and threw blunt objects.
