As more than 10 days of protests continue, mainly in La Paz, the Catholic Church, the Ombudsman’s Office, and the Permanent Assembly for Human Rights (Apdhb) are calling on the Government and mobilized sectors to engage in a joint dialogue. They are awaiting confirmation in order to set a date and time.

We call for a Dialogue for the Common Good between the Government, the Bolivian Workers’ Central (COB), the National Confederation of Indigenous Native Peasant Women ‘Bartolina Sisa,’ and the Sole Departmental Federation of Peasant Workers of La Paz,” states a communiqué released this Monday by the Ombudsman’s Office.

In the communiqué, the three institutions express concern over the escalation of conflicts in Bolivia, the acts of violence, offensive rhetoric, as well as human rights violations and the harm caused to third parties.

“This situation should not occur under any circumstance or for any reason among Bolivians,” the document states.

“Faced with the stubbornness of the conflict, we call for the clarity of words to prevail; faced with unchecked passions, to strengthen the force of understanding; faced with the presence of violence, we invoke the fruitfulness of dialogue,” the communiqué concludes.
