CRUCEÑIDAD ASSEMBLY

Pro Santa Cruz Committee Accuses Protesters of “Coup,” “Food Genocide,” and “Terrorism”

Cochamanidis asks the Government to enforce the law.

The Pro Santa Cruz Committee denounced on Monday a “coup” against the Government, as well as acts of “terrorism” and a “food genocide” allegedly carried out by mobilized sectors maintaining road blockades in different regions of the country, and therefore demanded that the Executive enforce the law.

The president of the civic institution, Stello Cochamanidis, stated during a press conference that Bolivia is going through “totally critical days” after nearly 20 days of protests and blockades seeking the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz. He said this amounts to a “coup.”

The leader defended the continuity of the government’s mandate and stated that “the ballot boxes decided” who should lead the country for five years, arguing that “what cannot be interrupted is democracy.”

Cochamanidis described the protesters as “subversive,” “seditious,” and “tiny groups,” and claimed that the protests are affecting the supply of food and fuel in several cities across the country.

“We cannot continue tolerating these subversive and tiny groups in the country trying to move forward with the food genocide they are bringing upon the city of La Paz and other cities. It is impossible for us to keep allowing food not to reach these cities, or fuel not to arrive so people can work,” he declared.

The civic leader also questioned the use of dynamite during the protests and called for sanctions against those seeking to “destabilize the country.”

“The law exists to be obeyed; the law is not negotiable. These people who want to destabilize the country, these criminals, terrorists in the way they act, must be punished according to the law,” he stated.

During his remarks, Cochamanidis announced that the Cruceñidad Assembly will analyze measures and actions “in defense of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.”

He held the Executive responsible for guaranteeing security and enforcing the law throughout the national territory.

“The law is not negotiable. These drug traffickers, these seditious groups, Evo Morales and all of them have to pay for the damage they have done to the country,” he added.
