Indigenous protesters expel María Galindo from their march: “Discriminator, apologize on your knees” | Indígenas expulsan de su marcha a María Galindo: “Discriminadora, pida disculpas de rodillas”

By El Dia:

María María Galindo, activist of Mujeres Creando, was expelled from the indigenous march from Pando and Beni that entered the city of La Paz this Monday in rejection of Law 1720.

The demonstrators confronted Galindo when she attempted to join the march. This group expressed its anger against the activist for having cut the tipoy (traditional garment worn by indigenous women from the eastern part of the country) during a public interview.

“I want a public apology and for her to kneel down, it is our pride,” said one of the women marchers, who was wearing the tipoy.

Other leaders of the march shouted: “Discriminator, leave. Go away, first study the history. Get out of here, don’t be shameless, discriminator.”

The activist responded to the accusations by stating that she wanted to join the march and that she was doing so in “solidarity.” “There is a leader who asked us to withdraw and I will do so, and I believe that questioning colonial symbols is legitimate and valid, and that is what I did and I will continue defending it,” Galindo emphasized.

The protesters formed a cordon to prevent Galindo from entering the march. This Monday, the indigenous demonstrators arrived in downtown La Paz with their demand for the repeal of Law 1720, after a mobilization that began 27 days ago.
