The Chuquisaqueño Álvaro Arnez will represent Bolivia at the 2026 Coffee Cupping World Championship
His hands trembled as soon as he heard his name. It wasn’t fatigue: it was pure emotion. Álvaro Arnez, from Coffee Bike, had just made history. Chuquisaca had, for the first time, a national champion in coffee cupping.
The moment was intimate and public at the same time. In front of judges, colleagues, and coffee lovers, Álvaro could not hold back his tears. The victory weighed more than the trophy: it was the symbolic weight of representing Sucre and Bolivia.
“I’m truly very emotional. I’m representing Sucre, Coffee Bike, a family café,” he said, still with a breaking voice. He thanked his siblings, Fernando, Ceci, and his parents. “I still can’t get over the magnitude of representing Bolivia.”
Álvaro Arnez was crowned National Coffee Cupping Champion Bolivia 2026, an achievement that opens the doors to the most demanding stage in the coffee world: the World Cup Tasters Championship, to be held in May in Thailand.
“This is work that starts now,” he stated. “We have very good raw material. We must emphasize Bolivian coffee, fair trade, and supporting one another as Bolivians. I was chosen to represent the country and I’m going to give all my potential with everyone’s support.”
Behind the title are years of perseverance. Coffee Bike, born under the vision of Fernando Arnez, grew along with the city. Today, that path finds national recognition that goes beyond the personal.
The new champion announced intensive preparation to arrive at the World Championship in the best possible condition. He knows it won’t be easy: the world’s best tasters will compete there.
He also spoke about the future. He highlighted Sucre’s potential to consolidate itself as a coffee reference point, driven by the Coffee Route, and expressed his hope that, in the medium term, Chuquisaca could even begin cultivating the bean, strengthening local identity and production.
The World Cup Tasters Championship is a test of extreme precision. In each round, competitors receive three cups: two the same and one different. The challenge is to identify the different one in the shortest possible time and without margin for error.
The 2026 edition will take place from May 7 to 9, within the framework of World of Coffee Bangkok, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). It will be the first time this world championship is held in Asia.
Speed, sensory memory, and absolute concentration define the winners. There are no second chances.
In May, when the stopwatch sounds in Thailand, it won’t be just a taster competing. A story made of family, work, and Bolivian coffee will compete. And Chuquisaca will be in every cup.

Las manos le temblaron apenas escuchó su nombre. No fue cansancio: fue emoción pura. Álvaro Arnez, de Coffee Bike, acababa de hacer historia. Chuquisaca tenía, por primera vez, un campeón nacional de catación de café.
El momento fue íntimo y público a la vez. Frente a jueces, colegas y amantes del café, Álvaro no pudo contener las lágrimas. El triunfo pesó más que el trofeo: era el peso simbólico de representar a Sucre y a Bolivia.
“Realmente estoy muy emocionado. Estoy representando a Sucre, a Coffee Bike, una cafetería familiar”, dijo, todavía con la voz quebrada. Agradeció a sus hermanos, a Fernando, a Ceci, a sus padres. “Aún no salgo del asombro de la magnitud de representar a Bolivia”.
Álvaro Arnez se consagró Campeón Nacional de Catación Bolivia 2026, un logro que le abre las puertas del escenario más exigente del mundo del café: el World Cup Tasters Championship, que se disputará en mayo en Tailandia.
“Es un trabajo que empieza ya”, afirmó. “Tenemos muy buena materia prima. Hay que hacer énfasis en el café boliviano, en el comercio justo y en apoyarnos entre bolivianos. Me tocó representar al país y voy a dar todo mi potencial con el apoyo de todos”.
Detrás del título hay años de constancia. Coffee Bike, nacida bajo la visión de Fernando Arnez, creció junto con la ciudad. Hoy, ese camino encuentra un reconocimiento nacional que trasciende lo personal.
El nuevo campeón anunció una preparación intensiva para llegar en las mejores condiciones al Mundial. Sabe que no será fácil: allí competirán los mejores catadores del planeta.
También habló de futuro. Destacó el potencial de Sucre para consolidarse como un referente cafetero, impulsado por la Ruta del Café, y expresó su esperanza de que, en el mediano plazo, Chuquisaca pueda incluso iniciar el cultivo del grano, fortaleciendo identidad y producción local.
El World Cup Tasters Championship es una prueba de precisión extrema. En cada ronda, los competidores reciben tres tazas: dos iguales y una distinta. El desafío es identificar la diferente en el menor tiempo posible y sin margen de error.
La edición 2026 se realizará del 7 al 9 de mayo, en el marco del World of Coffee Bangkok, en el Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). Será la primera vez que este campeonato mundial se dispute en Asia.
Velocidad, memoria sensorial y concentración absoluta definen a los ganadores. No hay segundas oportunidades.
