Agricultural producers demand actions to protect the economy and claim that “Arce’s legacy is a house of cards”

The National Agricultural Confederation states that the measures implemented both by the current government and its predecessors have been irresponsible and have only contributed to dismantling the national economy.

Through a public statement, the National Agricultural Confederation (CONFEAGRO) denounced that Luis Arce’s government has been disastrous for the national economy, to the point of considering that the president’s legacy is “a house of cards.” For this reason, the sector demands that presidential candidates Rodrigo Paz Pereira, of the Christian Democratic Party (PDC), and Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, of the Alianza Libre, take urgent measures to reverse the situation.

“All the measures applied so far have produced disastrous results for the economy, such as the shortage of dollars, fuel, some foodstuffs, and the semi-paralysis of supply chains. Unsatisfied with the crisis that millions of Bolivians are experiencing, they intend to implement irresponsible measures such as tapping reserves, disproportionately increasing the fiscal deficit, and abandoning diesel supplies, among others,” the confederation stated in its release.

In that sense, they demand that both the candidates and current and elected legislators defend the national economy. To this end, they call for concrete actions to reverse the situation and full transparency regarding all measures that have caused the crisis the country is going through.

“Today they must dedicate their efforts to ensuring that the economy is no longer destroyed and to safeguarding, above all, the future of the 11.5 million Bolivians. They must take action and denounce the economic sabotage against the Bolivian people,” they declared.

That is why they consider that “if this vision of prioritizing ideology over the economy continues, Arce’s legacy will be that of a house of cards, with measures that increase spending without backing and widen the fiscal deficit. This cannot and must not continue as part of a systematic destruction. The crisis will not affect only the opposition but will strike all 11.5 million Bolivians. The house-of-cards economy the government is building will be its greatest legacy of destruction.”
