The “land-takers” even set fire to forested areas, according to the complaint

A new case of land seizure was reported in the municipality of Ascensión de Guarayos, in the department of Santa Cruz, where more than 50 masked individuals, armed with shotguns, sticks, and firecrackers, violently entered private property, according to the workers’ complaint, which states that the group left one man injured by gunfire.

According to the report, the victim was rushed to a hospital in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra after the attackers opened fire on the property’s workers.

During the invasion, the masked men set fire to various structures on the property, including rooms, kitchens, motorcycles, and a large portion of the surrounding forest.

Residents of the Río Blanco community reported that the land-grabbers were moving around on motorcycles and acting in a coordinated manner. They also claimed that many of these individuals apparently came from other municipalities with the intent of seizing already cultivated lands.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was filed with the police, who carried out an inspection of the affected property but found none of the alleged attackers.

Locals stated that this is not the first time occupation attempts have taken place in the area. They demand greater police presence and legal action against those responsible for acts that threaten farmers and rural workers.

Guarayos has been a recurring scene of violence in 2025. Various reports indicate that in July 2025, there was another land seizure in the Santa Rita property, considered the fifth such occupation recorded in less than a year in that area.
