Looking ahead to 2026, people hold moderate expectations, with most believing that unemployment, inflation, and interest rates will rise, according to a recent Ipsos Ciesmori survey, whose results are included in the report “Bolivia’s Bicentennial: A Portrait of a Nation.”

Respondents were asked: “How do you think the following factors will change next year? Do you think they will increase, decrease, or stay about the same?”

66% believe inflation will rise, 64% expect unemployment to increase, and 56% foresee a higher interest rate.

Only 3 in 10 (31%) think their disposable income will increase next year, according to the survey results.

The data also reveal serious concern over food security and family purchasing power. 71% say their food expenses will rise; 69% expect increases in other household purchases; 62% foresee higher utility costs (such as gas and electricity); and 54% believe fuel prices will also go up.

According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in June 2025, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 5.21% compared to May, with a cumulative increase of 15.53% through June. The food inflation rate in June alone was 7.09%.

Food-specific inflation over the past 12 months reached 31.48%, and the cumulative rate from January to June stands at 20.12%.
