Tourism Chamber warns of a ‘devastating’ effect from the conflicts: ‘it will take a long time to recover the image’

The bus terminal had no travel activity on Wednesday morning.

The president of the Bolivian Chamber of Tourism, Luis Ampuero, denounced that, as a result of the blockades and conflicts in the country, Bolivia is seen by visitors as a country in chaos and practically on the verge of collapse due to social unrest.

“The effect on tourism is devastating; cities like Cochabamba are operating at 10% of their usual tourism demand. The hotels are dead, and this can be seen across the country, we are all feeling this situation,” he said in an interview with La Tarde en Directo on ERBOL.

The representative spoke about the context of conflicts stemming from the economic crisis and elections. For example, this Wednesday, the La Paz bus terminal had suspended all trips, which upset tourists who then recommended not visiting Bolivia.

According to Ampuero, the unrest causes tourists to avoid the country out of fear of protests, blockades, and all types of situations that could endanger their safety and mobility.

He warned that this affects the economy, since tourism should be generating the much-needed dollars for the country.

“It will take a long time before we can, if we ever manage to, recover the image we’re projecting as an unstable country,” he lamented.
