Economic sectors confirm 24-hour national strike on February 10 in rejection of seizure provision

The decision was made this Thursday after a national meeting in Sucre, in rejection of the transitional provision of the Financial Law, demanding its repeal.

Shortly after noon this Thursday, economic sectors confirmed that on February 10 they will observe a 24-hour national strike to demand that the National Government repeal the seventh provision on seizures in the Financial Law. The national assembly was held in Sucre, the country’s capital.

For weeks, these sectors have been demanding the repeal of the provision, and last week they had already warned that they would begin mobilizations starting February 10 if the contested regulation is not repealed.

The executive of the Confederation of Small Retail Vendors of Bolivia, César González, urged the authorities to allow them to work and generate income for the country. “If this provision is not repealed, the members of the supply chain will carry out a 24-hour national mobilized strike,” González confirmed while reading the conclusions alongside representatives from various sectors.

For its part, the government reiterated on Wednesday night that it will not annul the regulation and, on the contrary, revealed that it already has a draft of the regulations and is preparing a decree.

This was stated by the Vice Minister of Consumer Defense, Jorge Silva, who confirmed that he will continue insisting on summoning the sectors opposing the measure.
