  • Heavy rains have left 200 families affected and five people dead due to landslides: four in Cochabamba and one girl in Bajo Llojeta, La Paz, according to a report from the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense.
The rising rivers cause tragedy and disasters in several regions of the country.

The torrential rains recorded in recent days have caused disasters in seven departments, leaving around 200 families affected by river overflows and resulting in the deaths of five people, including a young girl in the city of La Paz and four adults in Cochabamba, according to the Deputy Minister of Civil Defense, Juan Carlos Calvimontes.

The authority, as reported by Erbol, stated that the forecasts are not encouraging, with intense rain expected in many regions of the country and significant overflows of major river basins in some areas.

Senamhi has issued an orange hydrological alert for 45 municipalities in La Paz, including Nuestra Señora de La Paz and surrounding municipalities. The same alert has also been issued for 31 municipalities in Oruro, 20 in Chuquisaca, and 12 in Potosí. This alert will remain in effect until December 1 and 2. “These forecasts are not at all encouraging,” he remarked on the state channel.

Regarding the damages, Calvimontes referred to the southern region of Chuquisaca, which has also experienced issues, and Cochabamba, particularly in the valleys and tropical areas, where the main rivers have reached their maximum levels.

In Santa Cruz, in the Chiquitania region, the rains have damaged agricultural production. In the municipality of San Julián, community members were forced to breach the road to drain water that had flooded their crops in an effort to save them.

In Tarija, the valleys have been affected by the rain, impacting vegetable and fruit tree production. Similarly, the most critical situation has been reported in the municipality of La Paz, where intense rains have flooded crops.

In the Yungas of La Paz, fruit trees were affected, while in Cochabamba, the rains damaged vegetables in the valleys.
